design APPROACH

We believe that great architecture and design can inspire and enriches both end user and wider society.  We approach each project as a unique chance to innovate, speculate, and challenge preconceived notions of what can be done.

We understand our responsibilities and look to both the pragmatics of a context or client brief to gain inspiration, but also draw from our interest in the wider world be it art, landscape, biology and technology.

We want our designs to be extraordinary, compelling, and human centered in equal measure.  Through our use of cutting-edge tools, we are able to maximize our designs potential by testing it rigorously, and by using inexpensive and sustainable materials we are able to find suitable solutions for all budgets and timescales.

digital TECHNOLOGIES

One of our strengths is our interest and extensive expertise in the use of digital technologies to develop our ideas, which sit at the heart of our design process.

At the outset this might be through the rapid conceptual iterations and testing of ideas, it could be through visualizations and walk throughs of different options and concepts, it could involve physical and virtual prototyping of ideas or representational CGI for planning, marketing and other stakeholders.

During the tendering / construction our experience allows us to develop complete and fully rounded sets of information.

Above all we aim to ensure our designs are clearly communicated and understood by ourselves and our collaborators and clients.

MATERIALS AND MAKING

We love looking for and exploring new ways of making and new materials and seek these out for exploration through our live and our own self-initiated projects.

At all stages we want to test our ideas in both the virtual and physical realms allowing us to fully understand the material and haptic qualities of what we are proposing for both ourselves and our clients.

We feel that whilst the digital process allows us to have greater freedom in exploring our ideas, there is an essential feedback required from the choices and materials and method of manufacture.    Through the knowledge of CNC and rapid prototyping and connection to academic research we allow ourselves not only to be designers but also makers of our own work, which has advantages to both quality control and costs.

COLLABORATION

As designers we want something to react against, so collaboration between ourselves and our clients at the beginning of the process is vital, we see ourselves not at the apex or separate from, but at the centre of the process, ensuring that all parties are connected by a common purpose of delivering exceptional projects.  For us and our clients the process to develop a project is as important as the final result.
